Better Late Than Never

I'd been meaning to post on this topic for a while. After reading online about "Just For Kicks" a few times, I went and ordered it via Amazon. Rarely will I heap praise on a movie, especially a more recent film, since in large part there are few flicks that I think outstrip the hype surrounding them. The glowing reviews for "Just For Kicks" don't do it justice.

This is one of the better MOVIES I've seen in the past several years, documentary or otherwise. In terms of overall documentaries, this is one of the best I've ever seen. Aside from the entertaining, insightful and prescient interviews and rich information, the storytelling and graphic aspects of the film were absolutely outstanding. I've watched it once per week, at a minimum, as well as recommended it to several friends who are inclined to check out sneaker, hip-hop or street culture-related films such as this one.

I definitely recommend that you
check it out for yourself...NOW...what are you waiting for?? I've gotta go watch it one more time...

Grey's Anatomy

Alas, suckers, I'm talking about the GreyOne shop in Pasadena. Now you might ask yourself...how does this cat in Chicago know about a sneaker shop in the home of Rose Bowl? Well friends, because of my 9 to 5 for the past few years, I've had the pleasure of traveling maybe 10 times a year to Pasadena.

Actually, seeing both GreyOne and Neo39 were my inspiration for opening sneak in the Chi (soon enough, soon enough). So reading about the redesign and renaming (though the
website is, as yet, still static) had me excited. Now if only Neo39 would get on the web!

Anyway, the new place looks great. I have to say that although the old space was nice, the new layout looks a lot sleeker and I applaud the decision to focus more on kicks. The old layout, with kicks in the window display in those cubes, as well as wrapping the outer walls, just didn't flow well. I'll have to see it in person to confirm my suspicion, but it looks like the new space just has a smoother feel to it.
